MOVIEBOOKERS™ EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Ann Lisa and David Fincher answer the audiences questions on In This Lifetime by Anonymous. They go in depth about the author, future movie and their own thoughts on the books.
Radio Host: Goodddddd Morning MovieBOOKERS™! Today we have two special guests for you. They are here to talk about the fast rising literature of the season, In This Lifetime by Anonymousssss. David Fincher director of Gone girl, and Ann Lisa, Editor, publisher, and advocator for this book. (Snickers all around)
David Fincher and Ann Lisa: Haha good morning
Radio host: So guys how are you? I hear there are some interesting things in the making for In This Lifetime, including a movie. (David laughs) But before we get into the future, let’s go back to the past. Tell us about this book for the listeners who haven’t read it.
Ann Lisa: Well this book is about a woman named Lilo Melani. She is a straight A student, 4.0 GPA, and has hobby of photography and geography. The book starts with Lilo graduating college and moving on towards law school. She comes from a very strict traditional family. Her parents want her to be this super rich, successful, lawyer. They want her to have this kind of conventional lifestyle and its really expected of her to become a strong woman with a good normal job. However Lilo didn’t want that. She drops out of law school and takes a world round trip, exploring, learning, getting to know what she wants and along the way documents it.
Radio Host: I know that people are saying that she is an inspiration and do you believe this is true?
David F: I honestly think so. I think she can be an inspiration to anyone who picks up this book. She’s a very relatable character and deals with the tough life decisions most adults and teenagers are still struggling to make. She shows that you are included to do what you love and should follow your dream.
Ann Lisa: I honestly agree, I think the author was really trying to reach everyone in this book. I know there are a lot of people who are stuck in what they are suppose to do and not what they absolutely want to do, especially with social norms. Not everyone wants to be a big time lawyer or a doctor, you can be a pilot or a youtuber, or talk show host. Be who you want to be and that is what Lilo teaches us. She shows her passion for what she is doing and shows us that success isn’t measured by the amount of money you make nor how high your job ranks. It’s how proud you are to doing what you do everyday.
Radio host: Wow, she truly is great. When I first saw the book I automatically noticed it was by Anonymous. I thought well how did you get the book in the first place? What was your reaction? And something I think all fans of this book want to know Ann, do you know who Anonymous is?
Ann Lisa: It is honestly the weirdest story. Usually with Anonymous authors, the publishers and editors know who it is. There is usually something up explaining who this so called unknown source that is writing this book is but no not this time. This book was just dropped off at my door step in the middle of the night.
I was eating a turkey bacon, green peppers and cheese omelet in my office working late and there’s just a knock on my door from the late night mail person with a package.
Radio Host: So this is truly an Anonymous book.
Ann Lisa: Yes and it really adds to the character of the book.
David F: Yes that is true, (chuckles) but I think this is very creative. It leaves you in suspense as to who is author of the book really is. I think the author choosing to be anonymous was a good idea on their half. It will intrigue readers to want to know more about where she is now in her life..
Ann Lisa : I agree , already we can assume that the author is very personal with the subjects by their writing style.
David F: It makes you think a lot about what the author was thinking or what they were experiencing for their inspiration. Were they going through a similar situation? It's a lot to think about in a sense.
Radio Host: Yes it is especially since there is no back story of the author to relate too. Books like The Great Gatsby, and The Metamorphosis, they tend to go back to the author’s life and experiences.
Ann Lisa: Well…. There are some secrets I’m willing to share.
Radio host: Really? Did the author leave you a message when in the package with the book to better understand why they left it on your doorstep? The people need details! (Laughs all around)
Ann Lisa: I was going through the pages of the book, and came across a very interesting note. I actually brought it with me today.
Radio Host: Did you hear that MovieBOOKERS™? We have an on air exclusive!
Ann Lisa: It is a short note and it states: “Explore your lifetime, learn how to be yourself, let others accept you for your mind, and find your happiness. Be your success.”
David F: That honestly captures the essence of the whole book. Its beautiful and I hope the author is living their life the way they want.
Radio host: Well David, how does this influence your decision for the movie? Does hearing this note from the author make you want to put your all into this movie for them?
David F: Haha well I put my all into every movie I direct, this note is just the cherry on top. After reading the book and hearing this it gives me the knowledge to make this the best movie it could possibly be. The people's response to this book really caught my eye. Literature is not something a lot of people tend to get together on now a days. The media speaks of it, the news, Oprah, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr.
Ann Lisa: They all add a huge fan base to this book. There are already fandoms, fan fictions written, I think a movie would take this book passed its absolute breaking point.
David F: And I tend to take there. You have to give the people what they want. I promise that this movie will be everything that this author, that the fans, would want it to be.
(Applause erupts in the studio)
Radio Host: You heard it here folks! Straight from the horse’s mouth or the Fincher’s mouth! I’m looking forward to this being the movie of the year, just like it is the book of the year. Thank you to Ann Lisa and David Fincher for gracing our studio.
